Criteria for Inclusion
The purpose of Paddle the Potomac is to connect recreational paddlers with experiences of authentic natural, cultural, historical and recreational resources on and around the Potomac River where they can experience its history and enjoy its natural beauty.
The primary listings included within Paddle the Potomac are individual places which can be incorporated in the content management system (CMS). These places must have the following characteristics:
- Located within Potomac watershed.
- Have a dedicated focus on places to which people are directed to access, experience, enjoy, learn about and contribute to a particular Chesapeake-related natural, cultural, historical or recreational resource and its role in the overall Chesapeake story.
- Owned or managed by a public agency (unit of local, state or federal government), state or federally recognized tribe or nation, or a non-governmental, non-profit organization.
- Primary purpose of site management is conservation, interpretation, education, and/or recreation.
- Open to public visitation for regularly scheduled daily or weekly hours throughout the visitor season. Associated with (included within) a national or state recognized landscape unit (e.g state or national heritage area; state or national trail; state or national park; state or national scenic river; historic district, etc.)
- Must have sufficient visitor information for us to complete a Find Your Chesapeake listing - including an overview, hours, fees, activities, facilities, location and more.
Typical examples of sites include: national and state parks; state and national wildlife refuges and wildlife management areas; historic sites; historic museums; water and land trails; nature centers and preserves.
Photo Usage Policy
The National Park Service Chesapeake Office and Chesapeake Conservancy retain the rights to all images used on www.paddlethepotomac.com. Some materials have been donated or obtained from individuals or organizations and may be subject to additional restrictions on use. Permission to use images from www.paddlethepotomac.com must be obtained in writing.
Interested partners, government organizations, nonprofit and educational institutions may use imagery, video and audio material for educational or informational purposes, including photo collections, textbooks, public exhibits and Internet Web pages by e-mailing Kelsey Everett with the following information: 1.) Name of Organization requesting permission; 2.) Contact person including mailing address, phone number and e-mail address; 3.) Intended use of photo (i.e. web, publication, slide show); and, 4.) duration of use.
System Monitoring:
This system is monitored to ensure proper operation, to verify the functioning of applicable security features, and for comparable purposes. Anyone using this system expressly consents to such monitoring. Unauthorized attempts to modify any information stored on this system, to defeat or circumvent security features, or to utilize this system for other than its intended purposes are prohibited and may result in criminal prosecution.
